At just 19 years of age Mario Balotelli has had an eventful career at Inter Milan to say the least, but is it time for the promising but troublesome teenager to seek pastures new?
‘Super Mario’ as he is known as by Inter fans is a very gifted footballer; he is superb with the ball at his feet, a great set-piece taker and has a great eye for goal. He has all the makings to be a superstar but his often petulant attitude could end up holding him back.
He has clashed with his manager Jose Mourinho on numerous occasions, where the Portuguese tactician has accused him of not training hard enough. Mourinho also criticised Balotelli after Inter’s 1-1 draw with Roma this season saying that Balotelli ‘came close to a zero rating’.
Balotelli then did one of the worst any player could do to his club, this March he went on an Italian TV show wearing an AC Milan shirt, Inter’s bitter rivals and also the team he supports. There is no way that if he was playing for an English side like Arsenal that their fans would ever accept one of their own wearing a Tottenham shirt so for him to do this is outrageous to say the least. After the incident Balotelli released a statement on Inter’s website saying:
“I am sorry for the situation that has been created recently. I am the first person who has suffered because I adore football and I want to play, and now I am waiting in silence so I can return to being useful to my team. I want to put the past behind me, look to the future and concentrate on the upcoming commitments and make myself ready.”
For this act of disrespect Balotelli was frozen out of the Inter team and shortly after being recalled he threw his shirt to the ground after Inter’s Champions League semi-final game against Barcelona.
Clearly after so much turmoil at a club at such a young age it seems as though Balotelli needs a fresh start and what better place than the Premiership. Under the guidance of a disciplined manger like Sir Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger Balotelli could be nurtured into the talented player he is capable of being. His attributes more than make him suited to the English game and he would be a perfect signing for Arsenal, as he is a young forward with many years left in the game, he is a quick exciting player and his style would suit Arsenal’s. He already has the ability to start Premier League games and is twice the player of Nicklas Bendtner.
One would think that if he gets the right manager like Ferguson on Wenger tutoring him then he will change his attitude and become a superstar. But if he stays at Inter or doesn’t move to a club with a strong manager then unfortunately he could become another player who doesn’t fulfil his potential because of his behaviour holding him back.
In any case the best thing Balotelli can do is move to England because he would stand the best chance here of developing his career.
