Aston Villa are set to sign Genk striker Mbwana Samatta for a fee of €10m [£8.5m], as reported by HLN.
The club is in desperate need of a striker, with Wesley injured for the rest of the season, Keinan Davis still unavailable and Jonathan Kodjia looking set for the exit door.
There have been links with various other strikers this window, including Christian Benteke and Islam Slimani, but it seems as though the Tanzania international could be their man.
There are some fans who are excited about the prospect of signing the 27-year-old, who has scored a total of 10 goals from 23 starts and three substitute appearances across the Champions League and Jupiler Pro League this season.
Red Herring or Real Hero: Only hardcore Villa fans will get all of them right….
The most noteworthy of those came in the form of a powerful header against Liverpool in the Champions League, something that will likely help him in the estimations of fans.
One supporter referred to the move as a “great signing”. There is potential for the striker to go on and make an impact for Villa, should he sign, especially when the current predicament up top is considered.
However, there are some fans who are picking up on the fact that Samatta is from the Belgian top-flight, finding it either amusing or concerning that they have gone back there to make signings.
Wesley joined from Club Brugge in the summer, off the back of a campaign in which he scored 17 goals in all competitions, while Marvelous Nakamba moved from the same club, after making 23 appearances the previous term.
Fans seem to be sceptical about this line of scouting, with one asking “do we have a loyalty card” while another has referred to Samatta as “another Wes”.
Meanwhile, Villa fans aren’t sure what to make of their links with a South American midfielder.
